Most Berg Bunk Beds come with the staircase that has become Berg's signature feature. While the majority of parents choose the stairs as the safer and more comfortable solution, you might have a good reason to feel differently: perhaps there's lack of space available in the room; perhaps the kids are big enough to handle the ladder and they think stairs are just not cool enough or adventurous enough; perhaps there's no need for additional storage; perhaps you like the price better -- whatever the reason, the option is there if you should find it attractive. This particular version of the Space Saver line can be labeled as rather skimpy when it comes to storage drawers -- at least compared to Berg's standards. There are three 18" deep drawers plus a pencil drawer housed by the desk and a huge drawer underneath the bed. At the head of the lower bed stands a bookcase headboard with built-in light fixture. An optional hanging shelf is also available. And that's it. As is the case with all Berg products, the desk can be placed on either side of the bed, but you need to decide on that before assembly.
