Notes

The May Bunk Bed by Powell is intended primarily for girls. The pure white finish, the arched headboards and footboards, vertical slats that reminisce of Mission styling, decorative feet -- it all points to that conclusion. The bed sports a rather unique access to the top bed; the sturdy clip-on ladder, attached to the face of the bed rather than to its side as is usually the case, has two advantages. First, it will never get in anyone's way; and second, this design allows for the side rails to run over the entire length of the top bunk, thus adding to the safety of its occupant.

The May bunk bed is also quite expandable. There is something called the May Conversion Kit, which basically enables the bottom twin size bunkbed to expand into a full size bed, in a way allowing the bed to grow with your child. The conversion kit uses two finials to spruce up its simple design. Equally as interesting is the May Twin Size Trundle, an underbed unit which combines a twin size bed with three drawers underneath that provide extra storage space to keep your child's room clutter free. Note that, in order to fit the trundle unit in its place, the bottom bunk has to be raised a few inches. The design of the bed allows for that, however, raising the lower bed will also shrink the available headroom on it, so there is a bit of a tradeoff here: extra sleeping space plus extra storage space for some comfort. The images to the right show both the twin/full extension and the trundle unit (click to enlarge).
