It is essentially the same product, made from the plantation-grown New Zealand pine wood. The declared weight capacity for the top bunk is 400 lbs, a respectable figure made possible due to the use of a metal rod supporting the mattress slats.
The guardrail height is a moderate 14 inches, which means you can use up to an 8 inch mattress with confidence and still be well within the safety regulations parameters.
The staircase version of the Classic bunk bed is available in four finishes only, as opposed to seven for the ladder version. These are: white, clay, pecan and walnut.
A major difference between the regular and the staircase version of the Classic twin/full bunk bed is the weight. At 280 lbs the staircase version weighs more than double its ladder equivalent. It’s something to keep in mind, as you’ll need at least two pairs of hands to bring the boxes in when the shipment arrives. On the positive side, weight means solidity. It’ll make the bed more stable.
Aside for facilitating safer access to the top bunk (and adding weight), the staircase provides some storage space as well. There aren’t any classic drawers, but those steps are pretty big and will hold plenty of stuff, be that toys, books or clothes.

If more storage space better aligns with your needs, consider the configuration with two under bed drawers. These roll in and out on casters, are 23 inches deep and take up the entire length of the bed. Plenty of volume there for storing clothes or toys.
