Introduction
The Storkcraft Caribou Twin Over Twin Bunk Bed offers a fresh take on the classic vertical-slats design with an inverted arch that gives the head and footboards a slightly ‘dented’ look which I personally find quite refreshing. The same goes for the choice of finishes: this company obviously isn’t afraid of a little experimentation and this also shows in combining the naturally finished legs with black, white and olive colors for the rest of the bed. Charming.
Gray, navy, white and espresso colors are also available.
Note that there is a difference in price among the different finishes so make sure to check them all out while browsing. The sale prices also may not apply to each finish, discounts might vary, so the price discrepancies among different finishes can get quite big.
The Caribou Twin Bunk Bed can be separated into two individual beds. See below how that looks, in espresso finish. However, if you want to make them look exactly like this, you’ll need to take them apart — since both headboards come from the bottom bunk and both footboards from the top one.
The included four-step ladder is angled and reaches to the floor. This probably makes it easier to climb and also easier to make the lower bed, but at the expense of taking up some space. And a possibility to trip over it.
The guardrail height on the top bunk is specified at 13.35 inches, which is about average for this sort of bunk bed. Or thereabouts. The maximum recommended mattress thickness is 7 inches. This leaves more than 6 inches of space between the top of the mattress and the top of the guardrail, comfortably enough to meet the safety regulations.
Finally, I would be amiss not to mention that the company making this bunk bed is a recipient of the Parent Tested Parent Approved (PTPA) Seal of Approval for nursery and children’s bedroom furniture, and also the 2018-2023 Women’s Choice Award for 9 out of 10 Recommended Baby & Kids Furniture. So, we have an actual award-winning bunk bed here. Yay!
What Users Say About Caribou Twin Bunk Bed
At the time of this writing the average rating for this bunk bed on Amazon was 4.6 stars, while on Wayfair it was 4.7 stars. That’s out of thousands of ratings. Almost 80% of reviewers on both Amazon and Wayfair gave it 5 stars. So we have a highly popular item here with an excellent rating, and this reflects in users’ comments.
The Pros
Most reviewers find the bed to be very steady and of great quality. The latter gets repeated over and over. ‘Very sturdy’ is another such phrase. One user commented that beds are bigger than expected. Another complimented the slanted ladder which, in her words, is safer than the vertical one. Still another praised the paint as ‘very durable’ and added that they’ve had it for four years and her grandsons haven’t worn it out, still looks like new. Some praise goes to the packaging. The instructions are reportedly decent and easy to understand. Few buyers seemed to have difficulties assembling the bunk bed.
The Cons
Negative reviews are much fewer. Usually they have to do with broken, dented, scratched parts. There are some reports of pre-drilled holes not lining up correctly. Incomplete shipments/missing parts also do happen. Some users feel the bed is not very stable; one buyer reported they had to anchor theirs to the wall. There are also some reports on broken parts after the beds had seen some use.
Bottom Line
To sum it up, if you are on the market for an inexpensive, great looking twin over twin bunk bed, give this one a serious look. With thousands of predominantly positive reviews out there, there’s hardly a chance to go wrong.
