Introduction

The AlmedaCheatham Full Over Full Bunk Bed (wow, what a fancy name) features the traditional mission-style design that never seems to go out of, well, style. It’s a classic look, nothing fancy, but I like it. Those thick posts and side rails do inspire confidence.

The bed is crafted of solid wood. But what kind of solid wood I couldn’t tell you for certain because that information does not seem to be readily available. I can only surmise it is pine of some sort because if it were hardwood I’m pretty sure they would have advertised the fact left right and center. And the price would have shown it.

Anyway, moving on. The weight capacity for both the top and bottom bunk is specified to be 250 lbs, which is less than some similar bunk beds I’ve seen. Then again, 250 is not too bad I guess, and there’s more to a quality bunk bed than its weight limit spec. The bottom bunk features seven slats; the top bunk, as far as I’ve been able to tell from available images accommodates 13 slats. This is rather unusual, one bed having more support than the other, although there is some logic to it. The top bunk also gets a centered slat support rod (a wooden one), while at the bottom bunk three of the slats are supported with vertical posts. That’s actually a decent amount of support, altogether.

The ladder on this bunk bed is clipped-on and vertical and cannot be moved to the other side of the bed.

The beds can be taken apart and used separately; however, I’m pretty sure that if you want them to look like in the image below you’re going to have to detach the bed ends and use the top bunk’s bed ends as footboards and the bottom bunk’s as headboards, since they don’t appear to be of the same height.

Another nifty little feature of this bunk bed are the two USB ports built into a bed post. Good to see some of the furniture manufacturers getting on with the times.

The bed ships in two, quote, ‘easy to handle’ boxes. An Allen key is included, but you’ll need to provide your own screwdriver and probably a hammer. A gentle one.

As stated above, this bunk bed is available in four finishes: black, white, gray and espresso.

What Users Say About AlmedaCheatham Full Over Full Bunk Bed

There are thousands of ratings on this bunk bed across different shopping sites and the lowest average rating I’ve come across is 4.3 stars. This tells us three things: this bed has been around for a while; people are buying it; people are liking it pretty good. Over 60% of buyers on Amazon gave it 5 stars. On Wayfair, that’s more than 70%. Not too shabby, though I have seen better.

The Pros

Those who like the bed and gave it 5 stars describe it as strong and sturdy. Very solid once put together. Roomy, stunning finish. Well made. Great quality wood. USB ports are oft mentioned as a (big) plus, but one user did say she wished there were individual ports on each bed, for when you take the bunks apart. Hard to argue with that.

A few buyers chimed in four or five years after the purchase with an update saying their beds are still solid, still standing strong.

The assembly of this full over full bunk bed does not appear to cause people many problems. As one buyer put it, it is not complicated and the instructions make sense, but there are a lot of pieces. And this pretty much sums up the overall feeling on the subject for this bed.

The Cons

Negative reviews have mostly to do with damaged pieces, scratches, dents coming out of the box. Missing pieces, wrong parts. While I have yet to come across a bunk bed that doesn’t have at least a few complaints of this nature, they do seem to pop up a bit too often for this one. Then again, I might have just gotten this feeling because of the large volume of reviews out there.

Finally, one thing that I feel needs to be mentioned has to do with the bed’s weight capacity. All the sites that offer this bunk bed for sale have it listed at 250 lbs per bed. However, this might not be correct. As one buyer noticed, the warning label on the actual product says the weight capacity is 165 LBS (75 KGS) per level. The claim is corroborated with a photo. So, I don’t know what to tell you here. Is it 250? Is it 165? If you’re really hot on this particular bunk bed possibly you could contact the manufacturer and see what they have to say about it.
